To the editor:

There is a trend in political campaigns that seems more common lately, perhaps reflecting the current adversarial tone of politics. So many campaign ads strike the same tone: "I am going to fight for (fill in the blank)." Sometimes candidates cite causes they have fought for or intend to fight for. Other times they simply claim to be "a fighter" without providing any specifics.
