To the editor:

Even though I had this letter in my head for several days, I thought twice about writing and sending it. Why? Because what if someone doesn’t agree with my point of view and decides that violence, not civil discourse, is the answer? But as I have been writing letters to the editor since I was in high school some 50 years ago, there was no way I was going to give in to fear.
