To the editor:

My father-in-law spent his late teens in the 1930s working on a farm in Jackson while living in the hayloft. He later left and became a Teamster organizer in Boston. One day I asked him about his education. He told me he left school in the fifth grade after he beat up his teacher. He was 16 years old. He was old for the sixth grade because he mostly worked in the mills in Somersworth and would hide in the girls’ room when inspectors came.

I wouldn't hold up Canada as the nation we should aspire to emulate. Look at their crappy health care system and look how they treated the free speech of truckers during Covid. Other than that, it is a fine country.

America needs and wants legal immigration and we have a process. It takes years, and it requires sacrifice. Until recently, we have always prioritized immigrants by what they can contribute and denied those who were sick or indigent. They had to prove they had sponsors who would cover their expenses if they couldn't find work. This all makes sense because immigration is not a right, it is a privilege and we get to set our own rules, just like every other country does.

Biden and the Democrats broke this system because, like many things in their worldview, the end justifies the means. Breaking all of our immigration laws and opening the floodgates to millions of unvetted immigrants was fine if it could help cement Democrat party power for the next several generations. It almost worked. Voters were almost fooled into accepting that status quo by nearly electing Kamala.

Imagine where we would be now had she been elected. Trump would be in jail, our taxes would be through the roof, Israel would be surrounded by well-armed foes and would be on its last legs, our economy would have tanked, gas prices would be $10 per gallon, and we'd all be turning our thermostats down during winter because the solar panels don't work when covered with snow. Oh, and we'd all be learning Chinese.

Let me get this straight: Your father-in-law beat up his 5th-grade teacher? And then he hid in the girls’ room? Is this supposed be something we’re to be in admiration of? The reason I ask is that I’m old enough to have apprenticed under the tutelage of men who lived through the Great Depression. They were hard, independent, self-reliant men with strong work ethics and moral character. I can’t imagine them beating up a teacher and then shamefully hiding in the girls’ bathroom to elude justice.

You said, “We need opportunity coupled with desire. Middle-class and rich kids have opportunities, tutors, and good schools, but often feel, “Why am I working hard to get what I already have?”

Maybe you can explain what you’re implying here; you seem to have an envious, prejudiced impression of kids from middle-class or upper-class families.

You say, “Forty-six percent of Fortune 500 companies were created by immigrants or first-generation citizens…”. Are you trying to draw some kind of false moral equivalency or just being intellectually dishonest on purpose? There is absolutely no comparison to those people of the Fortune 500 and what has been a purposeful illegal invasion of 10s of millions of undocumented, unvetted, ILLEGAL ALIENS. We are now seeing the strategic Democrat supported, NGO systematic billion(s) dollar coruption scheme built around the concentrated “Newest Visitor” population centers. I don’t believe that is how the Fortune 500 built their wealth. I am having difficulty seeing this corruption as a blessing.

Lastly, as a 23-year veteran, whose son, father, and father-in-law are veterans, I find your bifurcated citizenship claim to be more than weak, insulting, and quite offensive. Make an adult decision. You’re either an American or a Canadian.

Legal immegrants,are always welcome !

Why is it you all seem to ignor or leave out the criminal part. Illegally crossing our borders is a crime ! That's all there is to it.

People in our country illegally should take up President Trumps generous offer and self deport with the hope of returning legally in the future.

Otherwise, ICE will do it's job, and there is no hope of ever legally returning.

And if you are a citizen of these great united states, this is your country, there is no other !

Remember that...

Why is it you can't get it through your head that the legal immigration is broken, and people that want to go through the proper channels can't get processed in anything approaching a reasonable time? It takes years, and now with Trump cutting back on immigration judges (the opposite of what we should be doing) the bottleneck only grows. Trump had a chance to fix legal immigration in his first term (and now has another). He didn't do it, and he won't do it. Why? Because he'd rather use immigration as a political football. That's why he strong-armed his sycophants in Congress to vote against the bipartisan bill hammered out that would have made some progress to fixing the legal immigration system.

Now Trump is limiting even legal immigration. Why? Because a legal immigrant shot a National Guard member that should never have been there in the first place. Not only will Trump never step up and take any accountability, his sycophants won't even ask the question. Trump's authoritarian maneuvering led to the shooting, but you'll never hear about that from MAGA.

It's a good think the Supreme Court finally shut down his attempts to intimidate his political opponents with troops.

It's not just absurd to deploy troops to these cities based on lies, it's also illegal. It's the kind of thing banana republic dictators do.

Where is your outrage about that?
