To the editor:

I was hoping for a new, more rational and learned speaker for Congress, but so far my hopes are deflating. The new Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is tightly coupled with his religion, initially a cause for hope. But in his press briefings he sounds more Old Testament than New Testament.

Two of Johnson's first acts as the new Speaker were to scrub his podcasts and protect the dark money billionaires who would turn this country into an authoritarian/theocratic state.

Oh no, what a disaster, having faith in God and using the precepts of the Bible as your North Star. Oh wait, didn't our Forefathers have the same perspective and principles as the architects of our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our form of governance?

Are you saying we should disqualify people of faith and a belief in a higher power? Perhaps you'd rather have the moral relativism and secularism of today's Democrat Party that has normalized the abnormal, rationalized the irrational, and excused the inexcusable.

Maybe it is time we find those old family Bibles gathering dust on some dark corner of a bookshelf, crack it open, and reacquaint ourselves with the wisdom and lessons inside.

Unless of course, you enjoy watching us descend into the depths of depravity.

Geez MEPD, did you read her letter? She starts off stating that his faith initially gave her hope. What she's saying is blind adherence to the Bible instead of thoughtful, intelligent decision making would be disastrous, and she's right. I cringe whenever I hear a politician say he's praying on a decision. I'd prefer they talk to experts, get the best information, and make an informed, intelligent decision, not depend on a book filled with folklore written hundreds of years after the events they claim to chronicle. At least read letters before you try to criticize them.

"I'd prefer they talk to experts, get the best information, and make an informed, intelligent decision.."

Sure you do. Do you mean like the ones who basically shut down the Country, forced us to take an untested "Vaccine", wear masks, and completely isolate our children for a year? Those kind of "experts". Or, the ones that told us about the "Yellow Cake Uranium" in Iraq? Or, how about the current crop of "Economic Experts" or Foreign Affairs "Experts"? Because they are doing such a great job of leading us to economic collapse and war.

Those Experts?

Yes MEPD, those kinds of experts. I know you think you know more than them, but you don't. Being an expert doesn't always mean you're right, but you disagreeing with them doesn't mean they're wrong. You, after all, get your information from a far-right echo chamber where facts aren't brought into the discussion. I'll stick with experts, their track record is a lot better than yours.
