To hear President Donald Trump, with his criminal convictions, civil cases lost on sexual assault and charity fraud and serial bankruptcies, claim an allegation against New York Fed Gov. Lisa Cook “calls into question your competence and trustworthiness as a financial regulator.”
"That's not a political viewpoint they're expressing, though sadly the MAGA movement is based in racism, bigotry and misogyny."
And those are your opinions, and still protected under the 1st Amendment, whether you like it or not.
The SCOTUS has already made it crystal clear: Hate speech is protected speech.
You have every right to be a bigoted idiot on your own personal time. What you don't have is the protected right to express your views while employed by others.
One person's hate speech is another person's self-expression. It works both ways.
MEPD, you never respond to the point of a readers letter. You just go off on some MAGA speak. The point that Michael made is very clear, the 1st amendment guarantees us free speech. Your point of view seems to be that you and people with your point of view have free speech, but not anyone that doesn’t agree with you.
What Trump is doing is absolutely against the 1st amendment, not only are public broadcasting being restricted, but people who voice their opinion are being fired from jobs, censored. So, it’s clear to me that you, MEPD, do not value the US constitution. So instead of writing about Disney, why not own it, you and other like minded people, are okay with scrapping the Constitution. Stop hiding behind silly comments and say what you mean, you want to do away the rights guaranteed to us in the constitution.
This gets so tiresome, and it only goes to prove just how ignorant people on the Left can be.
Where were all of you "free speech advocates" several years ago, comedians, actors, and entertainers were cancelled and silenced just because they dared to speak openly about their conservative views?
What about the "words are violence" crowd? Where do they get off?
What about the "hate speech " crowd? Any issues with that?
Jimmy Kimmel has every right to speak his mind on his own time at his own expense. What he or anyone else doesn't have is the right to do or say whatever they want while under the employment of a 3rd party, in the performance of that job.
Hypocrisy doesn't even come close to describing the Left's newly adopted outrage.
In addition to the obvious points guest makes about the ridiculousness of your response MEPD, there's also the point of your lies. Conservatives haven't been "cancelled" because of conservative views. People have been fired for making racist statements, for example. That's not a political viewpoint they're expressing, though sadly the MAGA movement is based in racism, bigotry and misogyny.
An employer has the right to fire someone even if their speech is protected, but in this situation the employer is being pressured to take action by a tyrannical regime simply because they don't like what he's saying about them. Trump goes so far as to say he may go after people that criticize him because it's hate speech. He really is stupid enough to believe that it's somehow unfair to criticize him.
The words are violence crowd and the hate speech crowd questions are idiotic. Nothing Kimmel said has anything to do with that.
There is no comparison to be made between anyone that's been fired for racist comments and what Trump is doing to Disney and Kimmel. This is pure authoritarianism at work, and true Americans that support democracy cannot and will not stand for it.
Think about it this way; if Trump is allowed to do this during his term, when the inevitable Trump backlash puts a Democrat in the White House they can force Fox to fire Hannity and all the other Fox hosts because they don't like what they say. At least Kimmel was telling the truth, Hannity and co. lie almost as much as Trump.
Do you really want American presidents to have the power to control the media? If so, how do you see that as different than North Korea, Russia, China, or Hungary?
Think it through, I think you'll realize you don't want this kind of power in any president's hands.
MEPD, you don’t understand the first amendment. Let me try to explain. Let’s say I have a broadcasting company. The public starts complaining about a person on one of my programs. Let’s say they write letters and there are a lot of them. If my advertisers, start talking about moving to another program with less controversy, I may decide to remove the person from my program, It’s about the money. My advertisers go, I lose money. So I can remove this person, it’s my right to do so. That might be want you call cancel culture. That is not against the constitution. But, if the government, such as the president of the US, tells me to remove that person because he doesn’t like the things he says about him, hurts his feelings. Tells me to do it or the regulatory approval I need for an upcoming merger won’t go through, that is against the Constitution. The first amendment protects speech from the government. It is there to protect Charlie Kirk and Jimmy Kimmel.
MEPD, one other thing about your response here. It shows just how far under the spell of the cult you're under. The mere idea of criticizing someone who you typically agree with is anathema to you. Try it sometime there's plenty of stuff Trump's doing that any normal American would disagree with. That's the difference between MAGA cult members and everyone else; everyone else is free to disagree with anyone, MAGA cult members cannot disagree with their dear leader.

"I encourage others to boycott Disney..."
Yes, by all means, let's continue the conservative boycott of Disney and its LGBTQ+ agenda.
I love it when Liberals eat their own.
