I know this is going to shock people, but you butchered both the quote and the meaning of what Bill Clinton said. What he actually said was "Strong and wrong beats weak and right". He said it in reference to the Democrats' failure to gain seats in the midterm elections during W's term. He wasn't saying it was better to be wrong and strong, he was saying it was effective in elections. Very similar to the reaction to the debate. Trump was lying every time he opened his mouth, but because he lied confidently (knowing there would be no fact-checking certainly helped him there) and loudly, some people unfathomably thought that represented a strong leader.
