To the editor:
Why all the circumlocutions about the beating and killing of the duck? Anyone with such a propensity is learning it is no big deal. It is plain old cruelty. The statutes should recognize this for what it is.
Strangling out of compassion? It takes a stretch for me to see that. A vet could have assessed and made a humane decision.
If charges were brought, the courts allow for charges to be filed — no permanent record if not violated — but at least the public and any future police encounters would be aware. Many worse crimes often follow animal cruelty.
