To the editor:

Regarding the proposed Rec Path Phase Phase 2 and the paving of trails through Whitaker Woods and the Intervale, it is important to examine whether it is primarily influenced by commercial interests or by a genuine intent to enhance recreational opportunities for walkers, Nordic skiers and cyclists within our community. Observations suggest Phase 2 proponents may be guided by organizations seeking to locate the trail as close as possible to the business center of North Conway. This approach raises concerns because of multiple road crossings, the path running parallel to existing railroad tracks and the potential for additional damage to Whitaker Woods.
