There are many pressing issues needing attention from elected officials: ending brutal conflict, keeping the government operating and dealing with natural disasters. The average person also confronts daily challenges: providing housing, food and basic needs. In New Hampshire, budget shortfalls and uncertain funding for many programs are looming.
Every king needs a gilded ballroom. What’s $200 million? He’s saved so much money by cutting health care, research, education, food, etc. All of his cabinet are totally unqualified, so they can’t be making much money, right? Minimum wage, maybe?
Now it seems we also have enough money to bail out Argentina, $20 billion. How did Argentina get in such a mess? Doing exactly what the King and Musk did. They are just a little further down the road. It’s what we have to look forward to. Do think anyone will bail us out? Probably not, after yesterday’s embarrassment at the U.N.
Ballrooms, bailing out other countries, who knew that not taxing the rich would lead to such greatness. You don’t think we’ll be invited to a ball?
Plans for the ballroom were announced by the White House on July 31, 2025. The construction of the ballroom is estimated to be $200 million, with the cost met by President Donald Trump and several anonymous private donors.
MEPD - The ballroom is the kind of project that Trump actually cares about. He’s more concerned with projecting opulence and pomp than he is about governing or the American people. The White House is traditionally considered “the people’s house.” Now, there will be a massive ballroom next to it that “the people” will likely never step foot in, unless they have a couple hundred million dollars to throw at it.
The billionaires will probably donate to whatever pet project Trump momentarily cares about. With tariffs on again off again, access to the president—or even just the appearance of it—has become a currency of its own. Conducting business in the US is becoming harder every day. In addition to the tariff uncertainty, we have Trump deciding for no reason to stop a wind turbine project off the coast of RI that was 85% complete, just because. The company was losing millions a day while it was stopped. A company starting a battery company in the US, then having the ICE army arresting all of the workers incorrectly, just to get their numbers up. Day to day business in the US now needs the approval of the king, sorry the president. His billionaire friends will donate to whatever he wants hoping if they do he won’t stop their projects, or he will give them a reprieve from his tariffs.
Republicans have caused massive cuts to services our government used to support, research, science, health care, infrastructure, technology. If all goes as they planned the Republicans will be giving us a huge increase in health care premiums, some people won’t be able to afford them so will go without health insurance. And why did they do this? Oh right the deficit. The deficit is higher now than under Biden.
So, if the president is going to ask his pals to donate to something, why not to something that will actually help the American people?
Have his pals pay to bailout the farmers who sell more than half of their soybeans and sorghum to China. Oh that’s right, China stopped buying our farmers products the last time he was president due to tariffs and whatever. We, the taxpayers, bailed them out the last time. Now they expect us to do it again. (farmer welfare) He said said he would do more tariffs if reelected. Farmers voted for him again. Now they act surprised when they can’t sell their products. He should ask his billionaires to bail them out.
Or ask them to bail out Argentina, why should our taxes go to that? What happened to America first? By the way Argentina is selling their soybeans to China. They must be laughing at the American people. I’m sure they’ll have fun at the first ball.
How about asking his pals to donate to rural health centers, or subsidizing health care premiums? As another writer just noted, many vaccinations will no longer be paid for by medicaid, children are included in that. So if parents can’t afford the vaccinations, they go without.
Or the airplane that was ‘donated’ to the president, remember that? The estimated costs are from millions or billions to renovate for his personal use. Have them pay for that.
How about donating to the forest service to keep our national parks running?
Most Americans have yet to feel the impact of the cuts in services and the tariffs. At some point they will feel the pain, and they won’t be invited to the first ball.
In the list of things that Trump could use to pretend he cares about the people, the ballroom is at the bottom of the list.
