To the editor:

The headline of the article published on Nov. 15 in regards to the Riley Hayes trial (“Jackson teen offers to plea guilty in sex case”) is entirely inappropriate. Hayes was arrested for aggravated felonious sexual assault in 2021 after assaulting a 15-year-old girl who he invited to his “party,” where he fed the victim(s) excess amounts of alcohol and marijuana. That is not sex. It is assault in its rawest form and should be referred to as such.
