To the editor:

The shooting at the school in Texas is horrifying. The delayed action of the local police there just makes it worse. We believe the police protect and defend. This was police protecting and defending themselves. I hope we can expect better from our local police.

To answer your question lawfully;

“Neither the Constitution, nor state law, impose a general duty upon police officers or other governmental officials to protect individual persons from harm — even when they know the harm will occur,”

So you might want to reconsider what you think the police are obligated to do if and when the time comes.
