Letter-writer Ann Haralambie’s June 6 legal analysis of the trial of Donald Trump is astonishingly wrong.
Among other things, she opined that the trial was an “every day” one, exceptional only in that the defendant was a former president. But Trump obviously is not just a former president. He is the current presumptive Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential election. To any reasonable person, his prosecution clearly implicates if not indicates political persecution — especially since President Joe Biden has been given a complete pass on his alleged crimes.
Trump could have taken the stand and denied any and all of the allegations, including have an affair with Stormy Daniels. However, everyone with an intact cerebral cortex knows that he would have perjured himself. He had his "day" in court and a jury of his peers found him guilty. Trump has escaped justice most of his adult life.
