Unintended consequences. You sign up for Paramount+ to watch “Yellowstone” and because you forgot to cancel the service, you wind up watching “Tulsa King.” You get hooked on Three Musketeer bars at age 8 and you’re getting another crown at 75. Our best intentions are all too frequently sabotaged by disappointing outcomes.

You don’t like the nightly mocking you receive from late night comedians so your appointees threaten to block mergers that would benefit network owners and then threaten to pull the broadcast licenses of comedian stations. One comedian is on borrowed time and another gets yanked off the air but then reinstated. That’s pretty much you want. But you didn’t intend to blow up the ratings for your midnight adversaries. Millions more people are laughing at you each night. Probably not intended.
