I read Tom McLaughlin’s “Sex Strike?” May 23 column more than twice. I was not born in our country, the United States of America. I came to the U.S. in 1979, and I have been here since then. While living in New York City, I experienced a freedom as never before. But I do not mean that women were equal to men. For me, this country, my country, has opened doors that I wouldn’t have opened anywhere else.
It amazed me how poorly he qualified the commentary of Alyssa Milano. Could he not find other words than “saying some stupid” about her comment? Sex is an act that requires two participants who agree to use of their bodies to give pleasure to each other. From this free act there should not be permanent consequences that would change the life of only one of the participants. In this case, the woman. I, as a woman, would never say that Milano’s comment is stupid. It opens a door to see the sexual act from both sides with equal responsibility.
