A Carroll County grand jury this month handed up indictments on burglary and theft charges involving alleged incidents at seven businesses in Conway and Bartlett.An indictment means an independent jury has determined there is enough evidence to warrant a trial on criminal charges after hearing police testimony. It is not an indication of guilt.Shannon Orr, 21, of Berlin was indicted on three counts of burglary in Carroll Superior Court on Oct. 3. He allegedly entered Kringles Country Store, Bear Notch Deli and Glenn Ledge Corner Store in Bartlett after they all had closed. The alleged burglaries happened in June of 2001. The three charges are Class B felonies, which generally carry a sentence of 3 1/2 to 7 years in state prison. A Class A felony generally carries a sentence of 7 1/2 to 15 years. Other indictments handed up include one charging Rodney Michaud, 17, now being held in Carroll County House of Corrections, with burglary. He allegedly entered Banners Restaurant in Conway this August after it was closed.Michaud also faces a charge of receiving stolen property for allegedly receiving a stolen Bostich nailer, Dewalt saw and a CD radio, the sum of which is worth between $500 and $1,000. The charges are both Class B felonies. Carlton G. Griffin, 32, of Conway was indicted on two counts of theft by unauthorized taking for allegedly obtaining, on two different occasions in December of 2002, more than $1,000 from Mountain Valley Car Wash in North Conway. The charges are both Class A felonies. James D. Martin III, 19, of Brentwood was indicted on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking for allegedly obtaining between $500 and $1,000 of merchandize from Wal-Mart in North Conway.The charge is a Class B felony.Donald Koehler, 46, of Concord was indicted on a Class B felony charge of theft by deception. In April, he allegedly obtained money by selling a man in Conway a Dodge pickup truck that did not belong to him. According to the indictment, Koehler was convicted of theft by deception in 1994 and 1984. Graham Matthews Jr., 33, of Ossipee, was indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property for allegedly disposing of a portable metal detector valued over $1,000 that belonged to Chocorua Valley Lumber in Tamworth.The charge is a Class A felony. Suejan Udall, 41, of North Conway was indicted on a Class B felony charge of possession of a controlled drug for allegedly having heroine in her hand on or about July 18.Udall could face a $25,000 fine in addition to a prison sentence of between 3 1/2 and 7 years.Sadie Taylor, 35, of Tilton was indicted on two counts of second degree assault. On or about July 14, she allegedly bit a girls hand and leg, breaking the skin. The charges are both Class B felonies.
