The opportunity to ride, slide, jump, skid and grind can be found at Attitash Bear Peak, beginning this morning. The Bartlett resort has added an earthen BMX terrain park to its stable of outdoor summer activities and it opens today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The park is designed to challenge guests biking skills over hits, banks and rollers. The addition of the BMX terrain park to our downhill and cross-country services provides bike enthusiasts with the entire spectrum of bicycle riding here at Attitash Bear Peak, Jake Jacobsen, director of the mountain biking program at the resort, said. The BMX Park gives bikers the opportunity to enjoy an experience similar to the one inline skaters and skateboarders get from the Skate Park. The BMX Terrain Park is the second summer park to be built at Attitash Bear Peak. Last year, the resort invested in a 7,500-square-foot Skate Park in response to the growth in popularity of skateboard and inline skating across all age groups. Summer 2002 sees the addition of three skate camps and three skate competitions scheduled during the season. We have expanded our summer attractions to respond to the increasing demand by 8- to 16-year-olds for more interactive activities, Tom Chasse, managing director of Attitash Bear Peak, said. The skate park was such a huge success last year that the addition of the BMX Terrain Park was an easy decision to make. The skate camps are for all ability levels and are designed to coach participants on the use of park elements, park etiquette and safety, and to develop competition routines. Each of the three Skate camps is followed by a skate competition that is open to both camp participants and the public. The BMX Park is located behind the Attitash base area and The Skate Park is located behind the Adventure Center. Tickets to both parks can be purchased at either the Attitash Ticket office or in the Adventure Center. Admission to the BMX or Skate Parks is $10 for the day. Access to both parks plus The Alpine Slides, Waterslides, Scenic Sky Ride, Thorne Pond Interpretive Mountain Biking Trail Network and Lift-serviced Mountain Biking is $25 for one day, $29 for two. The resort is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. If you are lacking equipment, Attitash Bear Peak has stocked their rental shop with everything necessary for beginners to get in on the action. Rentals of mountain bikes, BMX bikes, skateboards, inline skates, and safety equipment are available at the Pedaling Bear Bike Shop in the Attitash Adventure Center.
