EATON — During a work session held on Tuesday, the Eaton Board of Selectmen reviewed requests raised by residents following public concern over logging on a 116-acre parcel overlooking Crystal Lake and discussed what steps are legally available to the town. The board said they are limited in actions they can take regarding the controversial project, but pledged to continue monitoring water quality, reviewing land-use regulations and exploring ways to protect environmentally sensitive areas.

More than 80 residents packed Eaton’s Little White Church last Thursday, seeking to protect the acreage on Lyman Mountain from the logging they say threatens water quality and could increase flooding. Residents Quddus Snyder and John Hartman held the informational meeting to bring awareness to the community. They had also hoped to get the state Department of Environmental Services involved even if the selectmen were powerless to stop it.
