Obituary: Michael Trent Smither

Michael Trent Smither, 84, of Kearsarge, N.H., died April 24, 2026. He was the son of Dorothy Trent Smither and Dr. A. G. Smither. Michael grew up in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Montreal and New York City. He was a graduate of Norfolk Academy, the Virginia Military Institute and studied in Vienna. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he began a career as a civil engineer.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Kearsarge, N.H., his daughter, Beth Donhauser (Paul) of Boxford, Mass., a son, Trent Smither (Alessia) of Hailey, Idaho, and four grandchildren: Alix, Drew, Tea and Luca; his sister-in-law, Anne Lee Doig and nephews, William and Peter Doig. Michael was predeceased by his brother, Peter Trent Smither.
