CONWAY — Mike DiGregorio, chairman of the Conway School Board’s John Fuller Action Ad Hoc Committee, discussed the feasibility of using the former John H. Fuller Elementary School building for out-of-district special education placements, which could save $1.24 million annually, and integrating a public preschool, which potentially would require four classrooms, as another revenue source.

At a meeting of the committee held March 19 at the SAU 9 Professional Development Center in Conway Village, other members (Josh Brustin, Ben Colbath, John Colbath, Bob Drinkhall, Superintendent Aimee Frechette, Brittany Hodge, Harrison Kanzler, Melanie Lebel, Alex Loth and Matt Stearns) said DiGregorio’s idea had merit and directed Frechette to flesh out some details and bring them to the April 9 meeting.

The publoc preschool and special ed program would be amazing uses for the property. However, the projection for the number of classrooms needed still leaves over 50% of the building unused. There is untapped potential for a charter school or two to fill the space and provide a stream of revenue especially when the special ed or public preschool would not happen in time for the upcoming year, leaving the building empty still
