CONWAY — With the 2018 deer season wrapping up, many Granite State hunters came away happy, including one hunter who got the surprise of a lifetime on the first day of rifle season.

As of Sunday, the number of deer taken by hunters this year stood at 11,648, making it 5 percent higher year-over-year, according to the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game.
