Hutchinson arraigned for 1994 Bridgton murder

Michael K. Hutchinson, 31, was arraigned on Thursday, April 13, for the 1994 murder of Bridgton resident Crystal Perry.Hutchinson was indicted by a Cumberland County Grand Jury on April 5.Perry was killed in the early morning hours on May 12, 1994, at her home on Route 93. She lived there with her 12-year-old daughter, who was in the residence during the attack, the Maine State Police reported. Her daughter fled the residence to a restaurant nearly one mile away for help, police reported.Hutchinson is being held in the Cumberland County Jail.The indictment comes after evidence collected during the initial investigation of this case was matched to evidence recently obtained and analyzed, police reported. The Maine State Police Crime Lab played a critical role in the recent developments, and DNA will be a major factor, police reported.Hutchinson, who was 19 years old at the time of the murder, lived in Bridgton and was employed as a mason.Crystal was 30 years old at the time of her death and worked at the Sebago Shoe Shop in Bridgton. Dozens of investigators from the Maine State Police and the Bridgton Police Department have been involved in this case through the years. They have spent thousands of hours working on it, police reported. The Crime Lab has also spent hundreds of hours analyzing the evidence, police reported.
