CONWAY — Aloof, and known to always shun the limelight, the late S. Jean Fernandez would no doubt be distressed were he to know that any article was being written about him — but given his powerful position in this community as the former president and owner of North Conway Bank, the quiet businessman's passing at age 94 on April 8 bears remembrance.

World War II veteran, Mountain Motors automobile dealership owner, owner of North Conway Lumber, financial leader, vintage car collector in his later years — Fernandez was strongly liked by those who were his friends, as well as feared by some for his financial pull, according to those who knew him.
