Keith B. Lannom has been chosen deputy forest supervisor of White Mountain National Forest.The announcement was made Monday by Kent Connaughton, Eastern regional forester."We are extremely pleased to welcome Keith to the Eastern Region, Connaughton said. He brings a tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge to his new position, and will provide a valuable perspective to our regional leadership team. Lannom comes to the White Mountain National Forest from his current position as a district ranger on the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee, a position hes held since 2005. He replaces Barnie Gyant, who transferred last year to a forest supervisor position in Oregon. I am very excited to be chosen as the White Mountains new deputy forest supervisor, said Lannom. I am looking forward to learning about the diversity of the forests natural resources and meeting and getting to know the many individuals and groups who care so much about the forest and its future."Lannom began his forest service career in 1992 as a forester with the forest services Southern Research Stations Forest Inventory and Analysis Unit in Starkville, Miss. After four years as a research forester, he spent nine years in the western U.S. working in a variety of positions related to remote sensing and geographic information systems. In 2004, Lannom received a Chiefs Award and National Fire Plan Award for support of the agencys Burned Area Emergency Response program. In 2005, he assumed his current district ranger position. Earlier this year, he served as acting area supervisor on the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Kentucky.Lannom earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees in forestry from Mississippi State University in the early 1990s.Lannoms reporting date to the White Mountains supervisors office in Laconia is July 20.
