FRYEBURG — Police are warning about the dangers of driving while fatigued after a 74-year-old driver collided with an ambulance and shut down Route 302/Main Street for about a half hour on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. According to police Det. Sgt Joshua Potvin, a Fryeburg Rescue ambulance was westbound en route to Memorial Hospital in Conway on 302 when it was struck nearly head-on by a Volvo driven by Alfred Berube, 74, of Fryeburg. The Volvo, traveling in the opposite direction, crossed over the center line. The accident caused extensive damage to both vehicles. The accident occurred near Hidden Pines Lane. The ambulance was not using its lights or siren.
