Alliance has raised more than $102K over past eight years

Tom Chasse, president of Attitash Bear Peak, delivered a check for $7,068.85 to Joe Voci, principal of Josiah Bartlett Elementary School. The check was a matching contribution for funds raised by Attitash Bartlett Aspirations Compact. Attitash Bartlett Aspirations Compact (ABAC) was established in 1995 as a partnership between the town of Bartlett and Attitash Bear Peak to encourage continued education for Bartlett students. The goal of the ABAC Scholarship Program is to provide money for every Bartlett student in his or her pursuit of post-secondary education or job-skill training. The money raised each year is matched up to $15,000 by Attitash Bear Peak. Attitash Bear Peak has made more than $51,000 in matching contributions over the past eight years. This year ABAC raised just over $7,000 principally from a golf tournament hosted at North Conway Country Club and sponsored by many local area businesses. Norman Head, chair of the ABAC committee and lifelong Bartlett resident and agent with Badger Realty, runs the tournament with the assistance of ABAC committee members Tom Chasse, Bryan Campbell, Joanne Campbell, Doug Avery, Jim Miller and Joe Voci. It earns the majority of the scholarship funds each year. Another main contributor was a Halloween party held at Heritage New Hampshire that earned over $900. According to Voci, what makes this scholarship program unique is that qualification is not based on academic achievement or acceptance at a four-year college. The resources are intended to assist students in their pursuit of job skills training, technical and certificate degree programs and college tuition. To be eligible, students must be Bartlett residents and have demonstrated commitment to Bartlett's community through volunteer work and community service. Two students are chosen from the pool of applicants and awarded $1,000 each. The scholarship is presented each spring at an awards banquet at Kennett High School. Caroline Duggan, a student at Southern New Hampshire College, and Josh Chisholm, a student at Keene State University, were last year's recipients. Attitash Bear Peak is part of American Skiing Company (OTC: AESKE), one of the largest four-season mountain resort operators in the United States.
