SO, NORMALLY THIS BEING Schneider Cup Weekend, I would be writng about it being “Bend-ze-knees weekend” in this valley where Austrian skimeister Hannes Schneider taught skiing after being free from Nazi custody in 1939. He became a fixture at Cranmore and the valley right up to his death from a heart attack after laying out the East Side trails on Cranmore in April 1955.

The 24th annual Schneider Cup is on for today at Cranmore as planned, but Friday night’s festivities were canceled out of concern for elderly attendees and the coronavirus scare.
