As many of you are aware, in January 2018, it was discovered that the Town House was suffering from severe neglect. A small group of women asked the selectmen’s permission to clean the Town House and take charge of coordinating requests for its use. The group is called the Friends of the Town House. They discovered mold, asbestos, junk in the basement, unsafe stair treads, broken door handles and windows and more.
Accomplishments so far have included air-quality testing, asbestos cleanup, heating ducts cleaned, basement and kitchen area mold remediation, new plumbing and hot water heater, new wiring and electrical panel, new exit signs and emergency lights, new stair treads, upstairs floor refinished. The building was officially reopened around June 7 and these projects are currently in progress: new basement stairs, kitchen being rebuilt, new front exterior and interior doors that meet fire code.
