The big bad winds of Halloween did their trick, and huffed and puffed trick-or-treating right into the last Saturday night. If for nothing else, it provided topic for discussion as echoes of our parents and grandparents’ childhood toils, and how they walked uphill to school, both ways, in deep snow while holding hot potatoes to keep their hands warm, rained down on those of us that postponed the event. Nonetheless, the streets of town were abuzz will little goblins and princesses as they struck to the roads in search of their candied treasure. A few out of town visitors also came for the hunt, as they took full advantage of the multi-trick or treat week.
Now, with a snap of the thumbtack that holds the calendar in the wall, a new holiday season is being ushered in. Radio stations have already begun playing Christmas tunes as most of us have yet to decide on what to have on the side with the Thanksgiving's turkey. Some of the ambitious among us even already have their shopping well underway. I, on the other hand, have yet to adjust to going to bed in a time that conforms with the recently departed daylight savings time.
