Effingham held its annual Civic Awards and the winners are Budget Committee and ZBA Chair David Strauss, Elected Official of the Year; librarian Crystal Hoyt, Employee of the Year; Chuck Fuller, member of the budget committee, ZBA, Capital Improvement Plan Committee and spearhead of the Historic Town Hall rehabilitation project, Library Trustee and active with the Effingham Historical Society, Volunteer of the Year; and Carol Pfister, trustee of trust funds, supervisor of the checklist, who has the uncanny ability to be many places at many times helping in many significant ways, Special Citizen of the Year.
At candidates' night, we saw Chuck Fuller courteously challenging Leonard Espie for selectman, both offering opinion about the new select board rule limiting public comment. Espie said he thought the new rule could be tweaked but was needed in part. Fuller said that if existing selectmen rules of procedure were adhered to for better meeting management, there would be no need for the new rule. Vote for all town officials on Tuesday, March 12, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Effingham Elementary School.
