Richard L. Lowry, 61, of Madison, died March 29, 2005, at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C., following complications due to scleroderma. Born in Philadelphia, Penn., the son of Richard and Catherine (Kober) Lowry Sr., he was in the U.S. Army for 20 years, serving in France, Germany, Vietnam and Korea prior to retiring in 1980 as a Sergeant First Class. Mr. Lowry moved to Berlin in 1980 and worked in the post office from 1983 to 1985. In 1985, he became postmaster and worked in the Danville Post Office until 1987, when he was transferred to the Kearsarge Post Office, where he worked until his retirement in 2004. He had lived in Madison since 1993.Mr. Lowry was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the U.S. Chess Federation, and a member of the Conway Camera Club.The family includes his wife of 39 years, Paulette P. Lowry of Madison; a son, Kenneth L. Lowry and his wife Bonnie of Berlin; a daughter, Elisabeth A. Reus and her husband Mark of Saco, Maine; two grandsons, Owen L. Reus and Ethan R. Reus, both of Saco, Maine; his mother, Catherine Lowry of Radcliff, Ky.; a sister, Catherine Browning of Radcliff, Ky.; and two nephews and a niece.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evans Medical Foundation, Pulmonary Hypertension Center, 715 Albany Street R 304, Boston, MA 02118.
