BRIDGTON, Maine — The Ladies Guild of First Congregational Church of Bridgton Maine will be welcoming residents of Bridgton and neighboring towns to attend an address by Sgt. Phil Jones of the Bridgton Police Department on the subject of “Scammers and Their Tactics” on Thursday, March 12, at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church located at 33 South High St. in Bridgton, Maine.

Scamming, the process of defrauding individuals of their possessions, is rampant. In 2016, for example, the Bangor Daily News reported in its Feb. 5, 2019, edition that the Maine Department of Health and Human Services referred 174 cases totaling more than $1.7 million in alleged theft to the attorney general's office for prosecution.
