BRIDGTON, Maine — The Meliora String Quartet will be performing at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bridgton Wednesday, July 22, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Formed in 2006, the musicians of the Meliora String Quartet combined their talents for the sole purpose of performing chamber music at its highest level. Citing a shortage of opportunities to hear compositions from the vast and brilliant repertoire of chamber music, the Quartet’s mission is to bring both familiar and lesser-known works to audiences in Maine. Robert Lehmann, violinist and director of string studies at the University of Southern Maine, said that chamber music is “the vehicle that most composers, over the centuries, have used to write some of their best and most personal works. I think it is the most pristine form of chamber music, the crown jewel of chamber ensembles.”
