Marie A. (Brownlie) "Mamaroe" Munroe died in Tilton on April 27, 2007, after an extended illness, at the N.H. Veterans Home. She was 86, the widow of Frank H. Munroe of North Conway.She was born in Everett, Mass., on Dec. 29, 1920, the daughter of the late Roland and Marie (Kirby) Brownlie. Prior to her illness, she resided in North Conway for over five years. Prior to that, she resided in Derry for over 32 years, and also in Salem, and in her earlier years in Medford, Mass., where she was educated. After graduating from medford School System, she continued her education through the military at the University of Indiana and achieved the status of chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was stationed in Squantum, Mass., and Pear Harbor, Hawaii, during the war, where she worked in bookkeeping and payroll. Mrs. Munroe also worked at the Lee Freight Liner and Equipment Inc., in Londonderry, and the Bensons Lumber and Hardware Inc. of Derry.She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Salem. She enjoyed swimming, camping with her family, sewing, reading up on history, geography and world affairs and political science. Mrs. Munroe enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Adele Hill and husband Peter, Margaret Walker and husband Fred, Lillian Lee and husband Norman, Lorraine Brooks and husband John, and Anne Louise Chamberlain and husband Roderick, all of New Hampshire; 10 grandchildren, Jane, Frank, Sherry, Shannon, Peter, Jason, Fred, Jesse, Meredith and Eric; 13 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends. She was the sister of the late Madeleine Hennessy, Vaughn Brownlie and Richard Brownlie.There will be no calling hours. Services and burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the N.H. Veterans Home Recreation Department, Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.Funeral arrangements by the Goundrey Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem.
