White Mountain Musical Arts presents organist Daniel Sullivan on March 28 at 3 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal in North Conway, where he will perform on the Casavant tracker organ. Hismost recent appearance in the area was as the kickoff tothe Bach festival in 2003. He holds degrees in music theory and organ performance from Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with Haskell Thomson. He has been hailed by critics as a promising young organist with style and a formidable technique. He won the 2002 Gruenstein Memorial Competition in Chicago and has won second prizes in the 2001 Arthur Poister competition in Syracuse, N.Y., the 1999 Cleveland Chapter AGO Competition and the Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival in Weathersfield, Conn. This spring, he will graduate from Yale with his master's degree in organ performance under the tutelage of the internationally respected organist, Thomas Murray. Sullivanbelieves in bridging the gap between the audience and the performer byexplaining musical ideasin a way that is accessible to even the beginning concert-goer.His program will include works of William Byrd, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann and the Bach Goldberg variations. A suggested donation of $10 helps defray costs.
