PINKHAM NOTCH — For many years, the auto road's summer kick-off event has been Alton Weagle Day, where enthusiastic "Weaglers" ascend the mountain in unique, first-ever ways. This has included tap dancing up the road, walking backward and blindfolded, dressed in a hot dog costume, crawling on hands and knees,and on a Segway, just to name a few.

The event, named in honor of Alton Weagle, who climbed the Mt. Washington Auto Road in a number of unique ways, including pushing a wheelbarrow full of sugar to the summit, will start at 6 a.m. on May 27 with a photo shoot at the base area of the auto road.
