Flying cars are nothing new. As far back as 1949 was the Aerocar, a small plane that could shed or molt its tail to become a roadable car, invented by Moulton “Molt” Taylor (I’m not making this up!) The Aerocar was certified by the CAA, predecessor to the FAA, and six were built but the idea never really took off (sorry!). Still, the dream persisted and that brings us to today.

Technology and progress has expanded the possibilities of a flying car by making them more specialized and simpler to control. eVTOL or electric Vertical Take Off and Landing aircraft, essentially drones capable of carrying people, are well beyond concept and into development and testing phases. In fact, the FAA recently relaxed regulations allowing yet-to-be certified aircraft to take to the skies. This is a radical departure for such a conservative administration as the FAA.
