"We try to be different from all the other furniture stores," said Tony. He wants his stock to be distinct from what shoppers would find at an urban retailer. "We're not trying to be a cookie-cutter of the Boston stores."

What they've found is that Massachusetts residents who finish furnishing their vacation homes in New Hampshire start buying from Green Mountain for their homes south of the state line. Tony said his delivery crews frequently go to Massachusetts.

"We also have all the gifts and accessories that go along with (the furniture); a lot of furniture stores don't have that," said Diane Doran, Tony's sister and one of the five siblings who co-own the store. Not only will Green Mountain Furniture sell a dining room table, it also has runners, dishes and candlestick holders to go with it.

Marshall Kendall passed away in 2012, a year after Green Mountain Furniture was named Retailer of the Year by the Retail Merchants Association of New Hampshire. The store is now run by Tony and Diane, as well as their siblings, Steve, Paul and Scott Kendall

Though the business is now run by a new generation, Tony said they maintain their father's commitment to service. Any store can be great at the moment of the purchase, but Green Mountain wants to be great should anything go wrong after the sale.

"If you treat people like that, they come back. You forget what you pay for something," he said. "You don't forget great service."
