The book club presentation by Duke Southard was entertaining, informative and everything one might want at an author discussion regarding his book. We had plenty of chances to ask questions and to seek advice about the process of plot development and character choice as well as research and resources. There was a very large group present to add to the variety of questions. Many of us purchased the book to keep as a memento.The book for October is "Old School" by Tobias Wolff and copies are available in the library. Everybody is invited to join us at the discussion on Oct. 25.We hear that 12 members of the Community Club accomplished the Adopt-A-Highway fall cleaning of Rt. 153 from Bennett Rd. to Rt. 25 E. The weather was good, everyone had a good time and they picked up16 bags of trash and 50 poundsof truck parts. Sounds like a job well done. Thank you folks.The next Freedom Community Club Dinner Meeting is Wednesday, October 13 at the Freedom Town Hall at 6:30pm. The committee will call for reservations and food donations. Non-members call Dallas Fuller at 539-7315.Writing of Dallas, we wish him and wife, Judy, a very Happy Anniversary this week, and Happy Birthday wishes go to Louise Anderson and Howard Bouve.At the Freedom School Board Meeting, Kathy Cogger submitted her letter of resignationto the board effective at the end of this school year. She notified them now to allow time for a timely search. The board would like to have the search committee in place by the end of October. They are looking for interested community members to serve on this committee. It will consume a good amount of time and will involve a paper search of applicants, interviewing selected candidates and choosing a smaller group for final selection. Members of the committee may also visit the schools of these candidates. If you are interested in serving, please call Laura and leave your name. Not everyone interested will be able to serve as the number is limited.Hannah Gaschott, granddaughter of Sylvia and Howie Bouve, has received a scholarship through the Dollars for Scholars, the Bill and Esther Levy Pequawket Foundation. This is a four year scholarship and may be used at any college and tuition will be paid in the amount that U N H would charge. Hannah chose Hampshire College in Amherst MA and she may take courses in any college or University in that area. Needless to say that her family is very proud of her and so are we.At the church council meeting, a lot of important issue were discussed. The Annual meeting is scheduled for October 17 at 7 p.m. There will be no council meeting in October. The next is to be November 17 at 6 p.m.New members will be inducted on October17 with an orientation meeting after church on the10th. Associate membership is an option for folks who reside elsewhere for part of the year. If interested, please contact the minister or one of the committee members.Keep in mind the Parks and Recreation trip to Castle in the Clouds on October 14, raindate 15, at 10am. Meet at the church.
