CONWAY — The Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association will be hosting Jean Melczarek as the featured artist at the Met Coffee House at Settlers Green in North Conway for the month of January. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. All are welcome.

Melczarek came to Mount Washington Valley in 1972 when she, her then husband Dewey Mark, and Al and Lois Nelson, bought the Red Parka Pub in Glen. For two years, she taught in Waterford, Maine, using her bachelor's in art education. There was no time to paint. By 1974, the restaurant was busy enough to need her there.
