Toy Story 4

"Toy Story 4" offers up the latest adventures of Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear and all the rest. (COURTESY OF DISNEY)

At first blush, “Toy Story 4” looks like another gratuitous cash-grab sequel. When “Toy Story 3” was released in 2010, its deeply cathartic conclusion resonated with fans who literally grew up with the characters that were first introduced 15 years earlier.

It felt right when teenage Andy donated his beloved toys — including Sheriff Woody (Tom Hanks) and spaceman Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) to 5-year-old Bonnie and played with them one last time before heading off to college. There was a sense of finality even though we understood there could be a new set of adventures with Bonnie.
