More so than ever before, Hollywood is obsessed with making films with name recognition. The thought is if a film is a known property, it is easier to market and people are more likely to see it over something that is an unknown entity. The fear is that this trend will push out originality in film.

Odd as it may seem, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” a semi-sequel to the 1995 film based on Chris Van Allsburg’s book, shows how to use branding while still retaining originality.
