“Brats,” Andrew McCarthy’s new documentary on Hulu looking back at the Brat Pack phenomenon, is surprisingly insightful and introspective with thoughtful interviews with McCarthy’s fellow Brat Packers. My biggest takeaway from the film is that the origins of the term “Brat Pack” is an example of a shady, opportunistic journalism.
I knew the term Brat Pack was coined by a journalist. What I didn’t know was that it was part of a hit piece on all the young male talent in Hollywood at the time. Having now read David Blum’s New York magazine article, “Hollywood’s Brat Pack,” I’m offended as a journalist.
