Raiders run win streak to four in a row

FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Academy softball team (6-2) has been busy with five games over the past eight days. Most recently, the Raiders won at Gray-New Gloucester (3-4) by a 5-3 scoreline on Friday; took a 5-4 road victory at Cape Elizabeth (2-4) on Saturday; and won a 3-2 nailbiter over Greely (5-3) in 10 innings on Monday. The wins improve the Raiders streak to four.

At Gray, with proven senior pitcher Ally Martell on the mound for the Patriots, the Raiders knew that putting the ball in play and having quality at-bats for all seven innings would be important. Gray got on the scoreboard first with a run in the second inning to take a brief 1-0 lead. Fryeburg struck back quickly with two runs in the top of the third thanks to the bottom of the lineup getting it started. Caroline Condon reached on a hit and Maddie Darling followed with a pinch hit. With Tina LeBlanc at the plate, a pop-up in the infield led to two Gray defenders colliding on the play, allowing the Raiders to score two runs.
