CONWAY — The Kennett High boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams found both the weather and the course to their liking in Whitefield on Saturday. Both teams took top honors in the five-school meet hosted by White Mountains Regional.

Kennett also had the top individual runners on the day with senior Chris Desmarias winning the 5K for the boys and freshman McKayla Dockham top the field for the girls.

“I love the course up there,” said Bernie Livingston, Eagles’ head coach. “The weather was fantastic. The boys scored 27 points to take first against White Mountains, Berlin, Gorham and Lin-Wood, while our girls also took first with 16 points, one point off a perfect score.

He added: “The meet was much more low-key than the one the week before (the Bobcat Invitational in Durham, which drew 23 schools). I think it was a good counterpart. The really nice thing was we are back home by 12:05 p.m., since they ran the boys and girls at the same time.”

In the race for the boys, Desmarais ran a season-best time of 17:37 for the win.

Teammate Keith Badger was third in 18:28, followed by freshman Ben Biche, fourth, 18:31; Ben Klementovich, seven, 19:33; Logan Violette, 12th, 20:31; Gavin Hunt, 13th, 20:39; Tristen Smith, 15th, 20:45; Adam Schmidt, 19th, 21:26 (shaved 2 minutes of his previous best time); Shane Fay, 21st, 22:37; Julian Brochu, 22nd, 22:45; and Eli Schor, 32nd, 29:38.

For the girls, flying freshman McKayla Dockham, led the Eagles to a sweep of the first four places in a new PR time of 21:24.

Sophomore Amy Burton was second in 21:35, followed by senior Grace Castonguay, third, 22:00; Grace Perley, fourth, 22:02; Sierra Abrams, sixth, 23:03; Dylan Derby, seventh, 23:59; Kaylee McLellan, eighth, 24:08; Madelyn Marcotte, 10th, 25:03; Olivia Scribner, 12th in 25:27; Shannon Derby, 13th, 25:28; Mara Taylor, 18th, 27:00; Abby Desmarais, 22nd, 27:49; Sierra Parsons, 24th, 28:07; Lauren Violette, 27th, 29:28; Maya Gove, 28th, 29:37; Celia Lynn, 29th, 29:42; and Taylor Garland, 31st, 32:00.

Kennett is scheduled to run this Saturday in the annual Black Bear Invitational hosted by Coe-Brown Northwood Academy in Northwood at 9:30 a.m.
