FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Academy girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Freeport to play the Falcons in their first game of the season last Thursday. It was a game that had highlights on both sides with Freeport coming out on top by a final of 15-3.
One of the highlights for Fryeburg was a goal by Sophie Kummer from behind the net on an indirect penalty shot. Another highlight was Ryan Duffy’s assist on a Bridget O’Neil goal in the second half. O’Neil had two goals on the day.
Bailey Richardson was spectacular in the Fryeburg net recording 15 saves.
The coaches were pleased with the effort on behalf of the team, and the good improvement coming their way once they get a chance to practice outdoors on a regular basis.
This will be a fun team to watch this year, as the Raiders improve with added experience on the field, so come on out to the games and support the team.
After spring recess, Fryeburg is expected back in match-action on Saturday, April 27 at 11 a.m. with a contest at Oxford Hills.
The Raiders are scheduled to play their home-opener on Monday, April 29 when St. Doms comes to town at 4 p.m.
