After a three hour bus ride to North Sutton on Friday afternoon, the Kennett High softball team showed no signs of bus-lag, in fact the Eagles came out swinging, putting 10 runs on the board in the first inning, cruising to a 26-3 victory over host Kearsarge in five innings (game was stopped due to the 15-run mercy rule after five innings)."We played pretty well down there," Peter Ames, Eagles' head coach, said. "We had 19 hits in the game including three triples and four doubles. We hit the ball hard, it wasn't like they were just a bunch of bloopers. To not hit that well Thursday (in an 8-3 home win against Oyster River) and then come out and crush the ball the next day was nice to see."Freshman Amber McPherson notched her first varsity win on the mound, tossing a three-hitter while striking out four and walking just two. "It was a good first outing for her," Ames said. "... I thought we also did a nice job defensively behind her. It turned out to be a good game for us in many aspects."Offensively, Mckenzie Keene led the KHS hit parade with a 4-5 game including a double and a triple while driving in four runs. Molly Saunders went 3-3 and also displayed extra base pop in her bat with a pair of doubles and a triple. Whitney Roberts was 2-3 with a triple; Alexis Jacques, 2-3 with a double; Brandy Ames, 2-3; and Alyssa Chick, 2-3.The win lifted the Eagles to 5-1 in Class I play. KHS was on the road at Plymouth on Monday (results were not known as of press time). The team will be back in action at home Wednesday when arch-rival Kingswood comes to town for a 4 p.m. start, and closes out the week with a trip to Bishop Brady on Thursday and then hosts St. Thomas on Friday (a 4 p.m. start)."We have a pretty tough week ahead," Ames said. "Plymouth is 8-2 and playing well and I think Brady has just one loss and St. Thomas may have only one or two. We're going to see some very good teams. Although Kingswood hasn't been winning they've been playing everyone close. Hopefully, we can continue to play well and get a couple of wins."
