I recently ran into one of my neighbors while on a walk. He is an older man who lives alone most of the time — occasionally his longtime partner visits, but when she’s not in town, he mostly keeps to himself. My boyfriend checks in on him from time to time, helps him out with yard work or jumps his truck battery when it needs it. When we saw him, he shared with us that he just purchased his first cellphone. Ever.
