AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Commissioner Amanda Beal helped kick off the global International Year of the Woman Farmer, moderating a national policy panel during the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture 2026 Winter Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.

Beal, who serves as NASDA president, led the plenary discussion “International Year of the Woman Farmer: What It Is and Why It Matters,” bringing together agricultural leaders to highlight the role women play in strengthening farms, food systems and rural economies.
