The quiet, special solitude of Evans Notch

When you spend some time in a place, you get a sense of it. I just spent two weeks volunteering at the AMC Cold River Camp in Chatham, just south of Evans Notch. I have only been home three days, and the thought of writing an appreciation for that region and what it offers makes sense.

What is special about Evans Notch? It is a quiet place. When walking along a trail there one finds a solitude often found in southwest Maine, yet combined with the spectacular scenery of the notch.
