Most New Englanders know better than to put away snow shovels and skis before March’s end. No matter how bare the ground, there’s always that possibility of a late March snowstorm. Woe be it to them that take their snow tires off before April. They could end up slipping and sliding in slush.

Last weekend’s snowstorm was a big surprise — 25 inches at my house. I had been lulled into thinking winter was over and spring had come. My thoughts of skiing were fading and cycling questions popped into my head. When should I get my bike out?
